The Henning boys’ basketball team held Brandon-Evansville to 12 first half points on Saturday afternoon as the Hornets were able to improve their season record to 5-0 with a 60-49 victory over the Chargers.

Blaine Wallevand led three players in double digits for the Hornets, scoring 19 points and adding 9 rebounds.  Luke Bjorklund added 15 and Isaac Fisher finished with ten points.  Brandon Trana connected on three 3-pointers for 9 points on the day.  Blake Wallevand added 7 rebounds and 3 assists.  Parker Fraki had a solid line with 5 points, 5 boards, 5 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocked shots.

“A great win in front of a great crowd against a veteran and well balanced B/E team,” stated Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades.  “We were really good on D in the first half, but, B/E never quit and made a late run at us to close the gap. Luke Bjorklund and Blaine Wallevand picked up the slack on the offensive end.”

Henning shot 42% (24-56) on the day, but struggled from the three-point line, making only 6-of-27 (22%).

B-E was led by 15 points from Tanner BitzanMarshall Riedel buried three 3’s on the way to an 11 point performance and Keagan Schiele also had 11 points, 9 of them coming in the second half.

“I thought we played out of control and rushed our way through things in the first half,” commented Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Trent Hintermeister. “We talked at halftime about playing more of our game and not letting them dictate the way we wanted to do things. We played better in the second half, less turnovers, gave up less offensive rebounds, and scored easier due to better decision making. Henning is a great basketball team. They play the game fast and can do a lot of things most high school basketball teams can't. I can only hope we get to play them again.”

Henning goes to Battle Lake on Tuesday night, while Brandon-Evansville (3-1) travels to Rothsay for a Little Eight Conference game on Thursday night.
