The Barnesville Trojans led Pelican Rapids 27-24 at halftime, but the Trojans went on a 25-9 run to start the second half, increasing their lead to 52-33 on the way to a 74-57 victory on Friday night in Barnesville.

Barnesville shot 43% (28-65) from the field and made 44% (8-18) of their 3-point attempts.  The Trojans were led by Adam Tonsfeldt (20 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals), Kaden Zenzen (14 points, 13 rebounds), Jack Nielsen (13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists) and Noah Krause (10 points, 3 rebounds).  Matt Samuelson added 9 points, 3 steals and 2 assists.

“In the second half we were hitting shots, running the floor, making 3’s, doing a lot of good things,” said Barnesville Assistant Coach Tracy Hinsz.  “The kids really played hard and some of the players new to the varsity received some opportunities tonight.”

Pelican Rapids made 31% (18-57) of their field goal attempts and shot 35% (7-20) from beyond the arc.  Leading scorers for the Vikings were Timmy Guler with 16, Logan Petznick with 15 and McHale Korf with 11.

“We struggled to get an offensive flow going in the first half against their tough half-court defense, but we were able to hang in there as we did a nice job on the defensive end as well,” said Pelican Rapids Head Coach John Gullingsrud.  “They went on a 25-9 run in the first ten minutes of the second half that put the game away as we weren’t able to continue our defensive execution into the second half.”
