Section 6A has a number of strong wrestling teams that will make for an extremely competitive season and post season.  The Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale/Parkers Prairie wrestling team is hoping to be among the top teams.

“OTC and WCA will be at the top and are the teams to beat,” commented Head Coach Bill Wagner of the Raiders. “New York Mills, Staples-Motley and Border West will also be solid and look to contend for top seeds in the section. The Park Region Conference is very strong, stronger than the section if I had to venture a guess.  Returning state team champions Long Prairie/Browerville/Grey Eagle will be the dominant powerhouse. OTC and WCA are extremely tough.  Throw in UNC and NYM with solid teams and individuals and things get very exciting.

Team goals are to finish in the top of the conference and section.  The BHVPP team will need to be at the top of their game, if they wish to get out of the section and into the state tournament.  OTC is the team to beat with a plethora of seniors on their squad, lots of experience coming back, and more than a handful of guys that were in the state wrestling tournament last year.”

The BHVPP Raiders leadership will come from two time returning state champion Craig Orlando.  “He leads by example and lets his results do all the talking,” said Wagner. “His calm composure will help lead the team through an extremely tough schedule. Carter Rokes has lots of wrestling experience under his belt not to mention some summer military training. This maturity will be needed as the team goes deep into the season. There are a host of juniors and sophomores on the BHVPP team with potential to step into a leadership role.”
