M State sophomore setter Sydney Hovland is a Second Team All-American. Hovland, from Underwood, served as a captain for the Spartans during their 21 win season in 2019.
Hovland finished the year with 775 assists, an average of 8.33 assists per game. Those numbers rank her 18th in the nation for assists and 11th for assists per game. Hovland also tallied 260 digs and 95 kills.
“Sydney is so deserving of this All-American award,” said head volleyball coach Abby Crowser. “Sydney was always the first one to the gym and one of the last to leave. Her commitment, consistency and mental toughness are unlike any player I’ve ever coached. You never had to worry about Sydney. She was as solid as they come. She set such a good example and was a true leader for her entire team. I’m so happy she achieved this milestone because no one deserves it more. A great way to end an amazing volleyball career.”
