The Pelican Rapids boys’ basketball team started their season with a trip to Crookston to take on the Pirates. The Vikings built a 40-32 lead at the half and held on down the stretch for an 84-82 win.
Jayden Rutherford led Pelican Rapids with 25 points, Logan Fahje had 17, McHale Korf 15, and Hunter Williams had 12.
Crookston was led by Walker Winjum’s 23 points.
“It was definitely an up and down game tonight as both teams pushed the ball and were effective offensively,” head coach John Gullingsrud said. “Crookston shot the ball well in their home gym, but we are going to have to make some significant strides to improve defensively as the season moves on to become a more balanced team.”
