As a first year head coach last season Jordan Cresap saw his Wadena-Deer Creek girls basketball team improved by five wins from the previous season, finishing with an overall mark of 8-19 and a Park Region Conference record of 5-9.  With all five starters back from that team and a total of eight returning letter winners, the Wolverines are poised to keep trending upward with their program.

“We had great buy-in to an entire new system and saw growth as a team from start to end,” said Cresap.  “We are looking to be more competitive game by game this season.  We have some good experience back and hope to use our size to our advantage.”

Seniors Kennedy Gravelle (F) and Mackenzie Carsten (G), sophomores Madison Packer (G) and Lauryn Gravelle (F), and freshman Madison Carsten (G) are the returning starters.  Other letter winners from last year are seniors Laura Krause (F) and Hailey Wiederich (G) and junior Nevada Schulz (F).

Cresap sees Menahga, Henning and Sebeka as the top teams in the Park Region Conference, while Fergus Falls, Menahga, Hawley, Crookston and East Grand Forks are teams to beat in Section 8AA.

“We will need to defend at a high level, rebound and continue to develop our guard play to compete with the teams on our tough schedule,” noted Cresap.  “We hope to improve day by day and the rest will take care of itself.”

Cresap will be assisted by Wendy Gravelle (JV), Avery Kelderman (C Team Head Coach) and Jordan Anderson (Assistant).
