Bill Gottenborg is in his 34th year as a basketball coach and his Hawley Nuggets will be among the teams competing for a Heart O’ Lakes Conference title and a Section 8AA championship as they bring back a solid nucleus of talented and experienced players from a 16-8 season a year ago.

“We have a super group of young ladies who play very hard and I think they will be fun to watch play this year,” said Gottenborg.

Senior post player Paige Thompson, who reached 1,000 career points last season, is one of four returning starters.  She is joined by junior Abigail Rux and sophomore guards Kaylie Crabtree and Kylie Crabtree.  Additional returning letter winners include juniors Rudee Hockett (P), Morgan Ames (F) and Addi Dauner (G), and sophomores Lily Peterson (G), Alex Eilertson (G) and Grace Fleming (G).  Junior guard Haley Reading and freshman guard Anna Steer will also be looking for varsity playing time.

Gottenborg points to Fergus Falls, Crookston and Roseau as the top teams in Section 8AA, while Frazee is at the top of the HOL.

Gottenborg will be assisted by Ben Lofgren, Chris Baxter and Paul Thompson.
