Anita Heier begins her fifth year as Head Coach of the Rothsay girls’ basketball team.  Her Tigers are looking to improve on a 5-23 record a year ago, however, graduation hurt them in the post as they lost Emily Christ, Cora Honer, Rachel Brenden and Jenny Collins.

“We have some big shoes to fill in the post this year,” acknowledged Coach Heier.  “Last season we had our highest shooting percentage since I came as a coach, so we are making great progress in our offense.  Our key players this year will be our senior captains Jayna Gronewold (G) and Jenna Fabre (G), two all-conference players for us last season.  They have been leaders for us on both ends of the floor for several years now and their consistency will be a big key for us again this year.”

Junior Grace Lider (G) and freshman Madison Tillman (W) are returning letter winners and Heier is looking to a young group which includes sophomores Abby Honer (P), Summer Wigdahl (P/W) and Chase Balken (W), and freshman Kenadi Carlsrud (G) to compete for varsity minutes.

“We had some young players get some valuable minutes for us last season and this year we hope to see this experience pay off,” said Coach Heier.  “We also hope to continue to see improvement on the defensive end of the floor.  These girls have worked so hard improving their shooting percentages and if we can contain teams on the defensive end we should be competitive in every game.”

Heier, who will be assisted by Lori Tillman and Ann Anderson, sees Parkers Prairie as the top team in the Little Eight Conference and Ada-Borup/Norman County West as the team to beat in Section 6A.
