The Fergus Falls boys’ hockey team lost five seniors to graduation, including their leading scorer, Declan Young, and one of their top defenseman, Mason Hoffman.  There are some holes to fill, however, there are also several varsity skaters returning to provide Head Coach Mike Donaghue with experience on the ice.

Top returners include forwards Isaac Young (JR) and Michael DeBrito (SO) and defensemen Kaden Peterson (SR), Ian Richards (JR) and Colton Partain (JR).  Senior forwards Ethan Danner and Hayden Shol, juniors Sterling Andrews (F) and Logan Schake (F), sophomores Andrew Johnson (D) and Cole Zierden (F), and freshman Isaac Johnson (F) are all expected to provide lots of varsity minutes.  Noah Tarczon, a junior forward, returns to the Otters after a years’ absence.

Three goalies will be battling for time in the net.  Senior Scott VanVoorhis, junior Ian Stumbo and freshman Ben Swanson.

Coach Donaghue will be assisted by Trevor Larson, Joey Kalan and Scott Christison.

Donaghue says St. Cloud Cathedral is the favorite to repeat as the Section 6A champion and will make another serious run at a state title.

“We play Cathedral the second game of the year,” said Donaghue.  “We also play Little Falls, Sartell and Alexandria all before Christmas.  They will be good games against top teams in the section early in the season, which will allow us to measure where we are at.”
