As Molly Arola enters her fourth season leading the Alexandria girls’ hockey team, she does so with a lot of experienced players returning from a 15-13 team that made it to the Section 6A finals. This year, the Cardinals will make the jump to Class AA, competing in the very tough Section 8AA, which includes Roseau, Buffalo, Bemidji and Moorhead, along with Central Lakes Conference teams Brainerd, Sartell and St. Cloud. Arola will be assisted by Jeff Doherty.
Returning players include seniors Mayson Toft (D), Micah Summer (F) and Meg Shercliffe (F), juniors Anna Doherty (F), Marki Oberg (F) and Ali Castle (D), and sophomores Kaci Trosvig (F), Hanley Block (F), Hailee Bailey (G), Jordan O’Kane (G), MaKenna Aure (D) and Riley Nyberg (D). Toft, Shercliffe, Doherty and Oberg will serve as captains.
Coach Arola will be looking to freshmen skaters Lauren Maras (F) and Ella Westlund (F) to also contribute to the varsity team.
“We are looking forward to making the jump to AA,” said Arola. “We have experience coming back, but also some new blood that will need to learn the ropes of high school hockey.”
