The Fergus Falls VFW Bantam A’s were back in action on Saturday, November 16 after having the previous weekend off. They were anxious to get back on the ice and build on their streak, after winning their first two games of the season.

The Otters faced off against River Lakes, in Richmond, for the first game of the weekend. They defeated the Stars 6-1 and extended their winning streak to three. Fergus Falls opened up the scoring less than two minutes into the game with a shot from Brayden Nelson and assists to Kellen Stenstrom and Dakota Komestakes. Later in the first period, Aiden Lindgren added another Otter goal with help from Jax Katzenmeyer and Dakota Komestakes. The Otters continued to build their lead in the second period with a power play goal from Sam Dirkman assisted by Aiden Lindgren and Jax Katzenmeyer. The maroon and gold tallied their fourth goal of the game from defenseman Bo Bring, who received a nice pass from Brayden Nelson. The Otters took their only penalty of the game with 27 seconds left in the second period. This set up a face off in the Fergus Falls end and allowed River Lakes to pull their goalie. Just seconds after the puck dropped, Otter forward, Joey Johnson, passed to Aiden Lindgren who scored a short-handed empty net goal at the end of the period. Less than three minutes into the third, Kellen Stenstrom lit the lamp with help from the defensive duo of Ethan McGuiness and Bo Bring. The Stars would score their only goal with 2:07 left in the game to ruin the shutout for the Otters. Fergus Falls netminder, Ryan Nelson made 24 saves.

Sunday brought the VFW Bantam A team to the Fergus Falls Community Arena for their first home game of the season. This match-up between the Otters and rival, Northern Lakes, would also be the first district game for the maroon and gold. The Lightning got on the board first with a power play goal, and took a 1-0 lead into the second period. Fergus Falls answered in the second when Shane Zierden set up Kellen Stenstrom who rifled it past the goalie to even things up. Less than two minutes later, Jax Katzenmeyer crashed the net, while being tripped, and gave the Otters the lead. Aiden Lindgren assisted on Katzenmeyer's goal. The third period belonged to the Lightning. They scored three unanswered goals to hand Fergus Falls their first loss of the season. Otter goalie, Ryan Nelson ended the game with 31 saves. The game was physical and saw the two teams combine for a total of nine penalties.

The VFW Bantams will host Thief River Falls on Friday, November 22 at 7:00 pm and again at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 23 at the Fergus Falls Community Arena. The Bantam A’s are coached by Greg Buckmeier and Jarid Adamson.
