The Brandon-Evansville Chargers defeated the Underwood Rockets 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-14) in the Section 6A volleyball playoffs on Wednesday night.

“Tonight we came into the match having a good game plan, but it didn’t show up until the end of the second set,” reported Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Kelly Olson.  We were passing the ball well but struggled to capitalize on those passes. We would start each set off really well and then just kind of fizzle a bit. After losing the first set, and being down 18-22 in the second, we took a time out. The players just looked at each other and decided it was time to play. Taking that set really set us up for the rest of the match. We gathered the momentum and never let go those last two sets. It’s how we need to play if we want to extend the season.

The Chargers were led by Korrie Randt (45 set assists, 9 digs, 19/19 serving), Bailey Schaefer (28 kills, 12 digs, 1 block, 18/19 serving, 7 aces), Mikenna Pattrin (13 kills, 1 block), Kailee Klimek (10 kills, 12 digs, 14/14 serving), Kristen Kokett (28 digs) and Brittany Korkowski (8 digs, 1 block, 23/24 serving, 3 aces).

“I thought we played well and got beat,” said Underwood Head Coach Diane Ross.  “We came from behind in set one to win and had a lead in set two, but things didn't go in our favor at the end of the set and we lost.  We started the last two sets from behind and B/E got on a roll.  Our seniors, Kayla Rocholl, Ally Johnson, and Shaynah Smith put a lot of heart and soul into the season and left it on the court tonight.”

Brooke Hovland led the attack with 9 kills, Josey Bugbee added 5 kills.  Reese Richards had 21 assists.  Brianna Evavold led the defense with 16 digs, Kayla Rocholl added 13, and Amber Frigaard added 6.   Ally Johnson and Brooke Hovland each had 4 ace blocks, while Shaynah Smith and Kayla Rocholl added 2.

Next match for Brandon-Evansville is at West Central Area High School in Barrett on Friday at 7:30.
