Patriots Upend Yellowjackets with Late TD

Perham overcame a 16-0 halftime deficit to take a 28-22 lead late in the fourth quarter, however, a Pequot Lakes touchdown and conversion with under a minute to play lifted the Patriots to a 29-28 win over the Yellowjackets.  Both teams are now 5-2 on the season.

Pequot Lakes scored on a one yard run by Cale Wolf with 1;07 left in the opening quarter and converted on a pass to Daltin Ackerman from Wolf. 

In the second quarter the Patriots increased their lead to 16-0 on a 14-yard pass from Wolf to Ackerman and a two-point conversion run by Zach Jorgens.

A pair of third quarter touchdowns brought Perham to within two points at 16-14.  The first came at 10:16 on a five yard run by Dawson Kellogg, followed by a two-point conversion run by Kellogg.  The second came on a 4 yard run by Kellogg with 2:33 left in the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Alex Morgan hauled in a 55-yard pass from Wolf to make it 22-14.  That touchdown was followed by an 83 yard kickoff return by Noah Rooney and Dawson Kellog two-point conversion run to tie the game at 22-22.  Perham went ahead 28-22 on a 20 yard pass from Colton Hackel to Finn Diggins with just 4:47 remaining in the game.  Pequot Lakes went on a 64 yard, 12-play scoring drive, resulting in a 5 yard pass from Cale Wolf to Bode Magnuson to tie the game.  The extra point kick by Daltin Ackerman gave the Patriots the win.

The teams were very even statistically as Perham had 317 total yards (220 rushing, 97 passing) and Pequot Lakes finished with 327 total yards (117 rushing, 210 passing).  There were eleven fumbles in the game, however, each team lost only one fumble.

Leaders for Perham were Kellogg (21 carries, 129 yards), Hackel (23 carries, 97 yards, 6-of-15 passing, 97 yards) and Finn Diggins (2 receptions, 44 yards).

Pequot Lakes was led by Jorgens with 56 rushing yards on 16 carries, Magnuson with 5 catches for 55 yards and Morgan with 87 receiving yards on 3 catches.  Quarterback Cale Wolf completed 16-of-25 passes for 210 yards and 3 TD’s.

Defensive leaders for Perham were Isaac Lung (9 solo tackles, 3 assisted tackles), Gareth Covington (5 solo tackles, 3 assisted tackles) and Rooney (4 solo tackles, 4 assisted tackles).  Rowdie Lindquist recovered a fumble for the Yellowjackets.
