Rothsay hosted Hillcrest in the Tigers Block Out Cancer Game on Thursday night in honor of Eric Rudh who is battling stage two throat cancer. The Tigers were able to win in three sets (25-12, 25-14, 27-25).

“We played as a team tonight and for that we were very successful,” said Rothsay Head Coach Kim Braaten. “It is great to see these girls play and grow together each match we have. We were dominant on the net and picked up many of the Comets attacks on defense. They were incredibly scrappy and really put up a fight in the third set. Leading us on defense tonight was Kenadi Carlsrud (13 digs) and Jenna Fabre (12 digs). They picked up almost half of the balls that came on our side of the net tonight. On offense, we also had Jenna Fabre (10 kills, 3 aces) and Madison Tillman (5 kills).  They did a nice job of being aggressive and finding open areas on the court.”

Lily Wheelright and Jayna Gronewold each contributed 4 kills for the Tigers.  Gronewold also had 8 digs and 19 set assists.  Summer Wigdahl added 8 digs and 3 aces.

“It was definitely a match that I wish we could get back,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss. “It took us two sets before we got into any kind of rhythm.”

Madison Foss led with 6 kills, 5 coming in the 3rd set, and 15 digs. Hope Adams had 5 kills. Olivia Stanton had 12 set assists, 5 digs, and 5 service points. Mackenzie Foss had 20 digs on the night. Amanda Dekok served 12/12 and had 2 kills, and Molly McGuire had 3 kills and 3 digs.
