Brandon-Evansville hosted Rothsay in a Little Eight Conference volleyball match on Tuesday night in Evansville.  The Chargers dropped the first set 26-24, but came back to win the next three sets 25-17, 25-17, 25-20, taking the match 3 sets to 1.

“With Rothsay coming to Evansville we knew it would be a battle,” stated B-E Head Coach Kelly Olson.  “They have switched out their lineup and seemed to have good results. We jumped out to a big lead only to see them battle back and finish us off in the first set. I thought we played hard with the lineup we had, but a few things didn’t swing our way. The other three sets we did a good job of controlling what we could and being better with the third contact.  Serving also played a part as we had some timely aces. Set four saw Rothsay storm back at the end to make it interesting, but a missed serve gave us the match point. Tonight was a good overall match, with everyone on our roster getting in and contributing to the win and it’s great to see the improvement in Rothsay from our first meeting.”

The Chargers were led by Mikenna Pattrin (10 kills, 2 blocks, 2 digs), Bailey Schaefer (9 kills, 8 digs), Kailee Klimek (11 digs, 4 kills, 17/19 serving, 4 aces), Kristen Kokett (13 digs), Brittany Korkowski (4 kills, 4 digs, 29/31 serving, 3 aces) and Korrie Randt (26 set assists, 7 digs, 2 kills, 2 blocks).  Sydney Schaefer and Boris Jacobson added 2 ace serves each and Haddey Zastrow had one ace on 8-of-9 serving.  Gretchen Bredberg was a perfect 8-for-8 on the serving line and the Chargers were 89-of-98 for 90.8%.

Leaders for Rothsay were Grace Lider (4 kills, 1 block, 4 digs), Jayna Gronewold (2 kills, 27 set assists, 11 digs), Jenna Fabre (3 aces, 12 kills, 1 block, 15 digs), Kenadi Carlsrud (1 ace, 15 kills, 5 blocks, 14 digs), Lily Wheelright (1 ace, 3 kills, 1 block, 10 digs) and Madison Tillman (1 ace, 3 kills, 2 blocks, 10 digs).

“The Tigers were scrappy on defense and had a great net game tonight,” stated Head Coach Kim Braaten of Rothsay. “We struggled starting each match which made it a bit more difficult to come back from, but the ladies did a great job with the amount of effort and attitude that was put in tonight. Kenadi Carlsrud and Madison Tillman had great defense tonight with reading where the Chargers were trying to score. Senior captain, Jayna Gronewold, really worked and was all over the court setting up our front row. At the net, Jenna Fabre, Kenadi Carlsrud, and junior captain, Grace Lider led our team on offense. Lilly Wheelright made some saves for us tonight as well and had great efforts made. We get to have practice tomorrow and get ready for Hillcrest on Thursday.”

The Chargers host Underwood Thursday on Senior night.
