The Alexandria Cardinals improved to 4-1 on the season with a convincing 47-6 win over the Brainerd Warriors in the Cardinals Homecoming game on Friday night.

Alexandria got on the board first when Kristen Hoskins hauled in a 10 yard pass from Matthew Carlsen and Sean Haak added the extra point kick to make it 7-0.  Brainerd answered with a nine-yard TD run, but their two-point conversion try failed and the Cardinals led 7-6 after one quarter.

A pair of second quarter touchdown runs by Nolan Morical (2 yards, 1 yard) and another PAT kick by Haak put the halftime score a 20-6.

The Cardinals put the game away with a 21-point third quarter.  Hoskins went 85 yards with the opening kick-off of the second half and Haak’s kick made it 27-6.  Morical added a 10-yard TD run and Will Heydt scored a 3-yard run with Haak booting both extra points to give Alexandria a commanding 41-6 advantage after three quarters.

A Colton Schabel interception return accounted for the final Alexandria touchdown to put the final score at 47-6.

Alexandria had 400 yards of total offense, 258 on the ground and 142 through the air.  Carlsen completed 9-of-15 passes for 136 yards and Morical ran the football 20 times for 164 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Hoskins had a team high five receptions for 57 yards and Dylan Mesita caught 4 passes for 79 yards.

Defensively, Xavier Holmevig was in on a team high 13 tackles, Derrek Piepho picked off a pass and recovered a fumble, Derek Pesta was in on 9 tackles and had an interception, and Cody Branson also picked off a pass.
