Thursday night the Barnesville volleyball team swept three sets from the Crookston Pirates, winning 25-11, 25-12, 25-18.

Leaders for Barnesville were Kim Maesse (14 set assists, 15/15 serving, 1 ace, 6 digs), Katie Newell (10 set assists, 15/16 serving, 1 ace), Lexi Bolgrean (14/15 serving, 1 ace, 16 digs, 5 kills), Emily Condon (18 digs, 7/7 serving, 1 ace) and Jordan Tschumperlin (9/11 serving, 2 aces, 3 kills, 2 solo blocks).

“Tonight was a game of strong serving and passing,” reported Barnesville Head Coach Megan Askegaard. “We were able to string together points in a row against their serve receive. We stayed aggressive in the first two sets by utilizing our free balls plays and staying in system with our offense. Emily Bredman (8 kills) and Sam Passa (9 kills, 16 digs, 8/8 serving) had a nice game attacking against the Pirate defense. Emily gave us a little spark when we needed it in set 3 with a huge kill and an over pass kill from the pirates. In the 3rd set we struggled getting our passes on the net and then putting away the 3rd ball when we needed to. We found ourselves down 0-6 before we came up with a side out kill. We were able to overcoming our slow start with many errors by playing tough defense and getting ourselves back into the match. The girls play hard no matter what the score is and the bench is in the game always encouraging their teammates.”
