Chargers Go to 5-0 with Win Over Ortonville

The Brandon-Evansville football team fell behind early in the game, but took control with a 32 point third quarter as they recorded a 54-24 win over Ortonville on Friday night.

 

“Hard fought game tonight,” reported B-E Head Coach Tim Pattrin.  “We had some adversity early but the guys stuck together, made the adjustments, and finished the game.  We will learn from the mistakes tonight and get better because of them.”

Ortonville got off to a 6-0 lead when Deaven Boots connected with Nathaniel Miska on a 30-yard touchdown pass with 9:30 to play in the opening quarter.  Brandon-Evansville took an 8-6 lead at the three minute mark when Marshall Riedel scored on a one yard run and Cade Carlson carried the ball in for the two-point conversion.

The Chargers increased their lead to 16-6 with two minutes left in the first half when Carlson scored from 9 yards out and Keagan Schiele tallied the two-point conversion, however, Ortonville drew to within four points at 16-12 when Boots scored on a three yard run with just fifteen seconds left in the half.

One minute into the third quarter Schiele broke loose for a 55 yard TD run and Carlson took the ball in for the conversion points, giving B-E a 24-12 lead.  Ortonville responded with a 71-yard TD run by Peter Treinen just fifteen second later to pull back to within six points at 24-18.  On the ensuing kick-off Carlson went 90 yards for another Brandon-Evansville touchdown.  Following the two-point conversion run by Riedel the Chargers led 32-18.  At the seven minute mark, Tanner Bitzan added a 21 yard touchdown run and Riedell scored the two-point conversion, giving B-E a 40-18 advantage.  With just 3:30 left in the third Schiele scored on a one yard run and Riedel again got in for two points, making it 48-18 heading to the fourth quarter.

Riedel’s four yard run at 8:30 of the fourth quarter made it a 54-18 game and Ortonville closed out the scoring with an 86 yard touchdown pass from Boots to Treinen thirty seconds later, putting the final at 54-24.

Brandon-Evansville finished with 430 total yards, all on the ground, and Ortonville had 382 total yards, 251 coming by pass.

Riedel led the ground attack for the Chargers with 162 yards on 19 carries.  Schiele added 95 yards on 8 rushing attempts and Carlson contributed 68 yards on 11 carries.  Bitzan carried the ball 9 times for 61 yards.

For Ortonville, Treinen ran for 80 yards on 8 attempts and caught 8 passes for 126 yards.  Boots completed 12-of-14 passes for 201 yards and a pair of TD’s.

Defensively, Bitzan led the Chargers with 7 solo tackles and 4 assists.  He also picked off a pass.  Riedel also had an interception and Schiele finished with 5 solo tackles and 3 assists.
