The Rothsay Tigers coming off a big loss last week traveled to Hancock to take on the Owls who had a big win last week.  With two teams seemingly going in different directions it would be a tough test for the Tigers but anything can happen on a Friday night.

The Tigers would take the opening kickoff but be forced to punt after only 3 plays and give the Owls a short field to work on.  They would take advantage connecting on a 37 yard pass play to take the early lead.  The Tigers would start to move the ball on their next possession but an interception would halt that and the Owls were able to grind out another touchdown and they wouldn’t stop there as the Owls looked like a team that cannot be stopped.

It would be a long night for Rothsay as state ranked Owls would control the night.  The Tigers were able to put a touchdown on the board in the second quarter on a long TD run.  At halftime the score would read 38-8.

In the second half both teams saw some young players get some playing time and both teams would have some long runs but it would be the Owls who would be able to capitalize and put some more points on the board for a final score of 58-8.  Hancock remained unbeaten at 5-0 and Rothsay is now 1-4.

“Hancock is as good as advertised,” Rothsay coach Joshua Nordick said.  “The highlight was the passion and respect for the game of football I saw tonight.  No matter who was in everyone was working to get better and playing the game with enthusiasm.  Even though we lost it was good to see some spark from our team.  13 of the 17 dressed players had a tackle tonight and 8 players got to run or catch the ball.”

The Tigers were lead both offensively and defensively by Colby Larson who had 161 yards on 16 carries and 1 touchdown.

Hancock will host Bertha-Hewitt next Friday, while Rothsay travels to Ortonville.
