The Brandon-Evansville Chargers swept past West Central Area on Thursday night in 3 sets, winning 25-12, 25-15, 25-19 over the Knights.

Leaders for Brandon-Evansville were Bailey Schaefer (19 kills, 7 digs, 13/14 serving, 3 aces), Mikenna Pattrin (9 kills, 1 block), Kailee Klimek (6 kills, 5 digs, 14/15 serving, 1 ace), Korrie Randt (35 set assists, 3 kills, 5 digs, 10/11 serving, 1 ace), and Brittany Korkowski (3 kills, 7 digs, 14/15 serving, 1 ace).  Gretchen Bredberg was a perfect 10-for-10 on the serving line.

“Our girls played well tonight,” said Head Coach Kelly Olson of the Chargers. “We served aggressively and because of that we received a lot of free balls. Serving continues to be something we focus on daily. WCA deserves credit, as they made us work hard for everything. Our passing continues to improve and tonight we took another step forward in our receive game. I thought all our primary passers did a great job. I also think the refs did a great job. We should all be thankful for the people that come out and make these matches possible. As we look into next week, we have to shore up a few things and continue to improve so as the season gets long in the tooth we can be where we need to be. We have three section games next week, then a tournament in Marshall next weekend that will test us physically and mentally.

Leaders for West Central Area were Brooke Anderson (10/10 serving, 1 ace, 8 digs), Lizzie Rustan (5/5 serving, 1 ace, 7 kills), Kaleigh Anderson (11 set assists), Hailey Bennett (5 set assists, 8 digs, 5 kills) and Ellie Herman (8 digs, 4 kills, 2 blocks).

“We finally stepped on the court and played volleyball without drama and fear,” exclaimed WCA Head Coach Missy Foslien.  “It’s been a tough last couple of weeks, and despite the loss tonight, we played as a team.  I really hope this is a turning point for our team this season.  Brandon- Evansville is a tough and respectable team.  We knew it was going to be a tough match.  We switched our rotation up and moved Kaleigh Anderson to a setter position.  This move just clicked.  She has such a drive to get to every ball and although we missed her defense in the back, other girls stepped it up and improved their passing with each game.  Ellie Herman normally doesn’t play back row for us, but she really played very well.  Kaitlyn Hansen stepped in at libero, and in her first varsity experience she did a fine job against this hard hitting team.  We knew we had to slow down their hits with touches and the girls improved so much from Tuesday’s game vs. Wheaton.  I am very happy with their play and am looking forward to Saturday’s tournament in Bertha-Hewitt.”
