The Battle Lake Battlers defeated the Hillcrest Comets 3-1 in Little Eight Conference volleyball action on Thursday night (20-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-20).

“This was a hard fought match by both teams,” stated Battle Lake Head Coach Jenny Roisum.  “It came down to a defensive battle between two feisty teams that would not give up.  Other than set two, the sets were evenly played with either team taking the lead at some point.    The Battlers were able make the final push up the match to take the win.”

Kate Christensen led the Battlers with 13 kills and 13 assists.  Grace Van Erp was close behind with 9 kills, 10 digs, and 22 assists.  Dani Anderson had a strong serving night going 15/16 with 2 aces and Makenna Tysdal controlled the back court with 25 assists.  The Battlers head to Barnesville on Saturday for a tournament.

“We had a fun night of volleyball despite a ton of unforced errors on oth sides of the net,” noted Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss.  “This week has been a busy Homecoming week for the girls and it felt good to take the first set. We struggled in the second set with more unforced errors but then we found our stride again and played better in the third and fourth sets. What we sometimes lacked in experience, we made up for in team enthusiasm and encouragement to one another.”

Amanda Dekok was the Comets only “perfect” server of the night and had 7 kills at the net. Hope Adams added another 7 kills. Madi Foss had 4 kills and 10 digs. The Comets other outside hitter, Maria Ruud had 4 kills and 9 digs.  Olivia Stanton led in set assists with 13.  Audra Ewan had a nice defensive game with 13 digs and 5 set assists.  Mackenzie Foss rounded out the digs with 26 for the night. “The girls commented after the game how everyone played an important part in the match,” added Coach Foss. “Our next game is against Underwood this coming Tuesday which will be played at Kennedy High School in Fergus.”
