First, the Otters took on the Spuds on their home courts, with Moorhead coming out on top 6-1. “We had a couple of very competitive doubles matchups in this match at first and third doubles,” reported Head Coach Jamie Lill. “At third doubles, Elizabeth Houge and Mia Marsh found themselves down 5-2 early in the first set, but battled back playing smart tennis to force a tie break to decide the first set. Moorhead took the breaker 7-3 and eventually the match 7-6, 6-3, but Houge and Marsh looked good on the court today. Carlie Meis and Olivia Kaliher also put together a great second set after dropping the first, but ended up falling 6-1, 7-5. The lone win for the Otters came from Ellie Colbeck at first singles. “Ellie and her opponent Katryna Hansen went the distance in a great baseline battle before Ellie sealed the match with a 12-10 third set tiebreak win,” said Lill. “This was a good win for Ellie against a very complete opponent in Hansen.”
Next, the Otters took on a tough Bemidji squad, falling 7-0. “Once again, Carlie and Olivia played a solid match, but fell in straight sets to a tough Bemidji duo 6-3, 6-3,” stated Coach Lill. “Colbeck had another nail biter at first singles against Savannah Haugen. This match was so fun to watch as both girls have such a variety of shots in their tool belt. Ellie ended up dropping the match 10-7 in the third set super-tiebreaker, but it was a great effort from both sides.”
The Otters head to Brainerd on Monday for their final regular season matchup against CLC and section 8AA Warriors.
