In what felt like a fall day, the West Central Cross Country Team ventured to their nearest meet of the season in Fergus Falls for the John Hermes Invite on Thursday.  The WCA boys had a good showing, taking five of the top eleven spots and finishing with 20 team points in first place and the girls placed third with 85 points.

The girls had Lexi Bright in 10th place and first of all Class A runners.  The meet consisted of mostly Class AA schools.  “Our girls are improving with each meet and we hope to get everyone in top form in about a month,” stated Head Coach John Van Kempen.  Next was Teagan Nelson in 14th, followed closely by Brynn Fernholz in 16th, Taylor Bennet in 21st, Alex Blume in 24th and Brooklyn Runge in 35th.  “Taylor, Alexa and Brooklyn, all eighth graders, are all improving from meet to meet,” noted Coach Van Kempen.

The boys were led by Jacob Bright, finishing in first placed in just over 16 minutes.  “Jacob continues to look strong in each race, finishing in first place at the Milaca Megameet too,” reported Van Kempen.  Next was Kade Runge in 5th, followed by Jack Van Kempen in 7th, Kyle Schill in 10th and Alex Salwasser in 11th.  “Those next four can stay in a pack and finished within about 20 seconds of each other.  After Jacob, any one of those guys could be our number two runner,” observed Van Kempen.  Shad Swanson was next in 31st and Roman Mihailovschi was in 42nd.  Roman ran his first varsity race, filling in for an injured runner and looked very good for his first varsity experience.

The junior high girls had Blair Reuter in 44th and Steph Reeves in 78th.  The junior boys team placed fourth with Dane Anderson in 5th, Bryce Kjesbo in 9th, Jack Courier in 17th, Camden Anderson in 28th, Ben Bye in 37th and Simon Moritz in 41st.  The girls JV had Quin Huntley in 45th and Bella Hale in 46th.  The boys JV had Peyton Hanson in 16th, Eli Bergman in 25th, Tyler Bill in 28th and Parker Mathews in 74th.
