The Brandon-Evansville Chargers hosted the Hillcrest Comets in a high school football contest on Friday night in Brandon.  The Chargers raced out to a 32-0 lead in the first quarter on the strength of a good run game and a couple botched punts by the Comets, and went on to record a 46-8 victory.

Cade Carlson got the Chargers on the board just a minute into the game when he broke loose for a 46 yard touchdown run.  Marshall Riedel made the score 8-0 with a two-point conversion run.  At the 8:30 mark, Keagan Schiele completed a 17 yard scoring toss to Tony Schaffran and Tanner Bitzan ran in for the two-point conversion, making it 16-0, Chargers.  With seven minutes left in the opening quarter Carlson scored on a six yard run and Schiele hit Kyle Schaffran with the two-point conversion pass and the Chargers led 24-0.  A one yard run by Ryland Yeats with 2:30 to play in the quarter and a two-point conversion run by John Roers gave B-E their 32-0 lead after the first quarter of play.

Roers scored on a 3 yard run with 7:30 remaining in the first half as the Chargers increased their lead to 38-0.  Kaleb Swenson then completed a 22 yard TD pass to Zeke Ihrke with 2:30 left in the half and the two-point conversion run put the score at 38-8.
Brandon-Evansville closed out the scoring with 2:30 left in the third quarter on a 67 yard run by Yeats and a two-point conversion run by Roers.

"We played hard tonight at all levels,” said Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Tim Pattrin.  “We got back to basics both offensively and defensively and everyone played well.  Great to get so many guys under the lights at Homecoming.  Now we have to get ready for an aggressive Ortonville team."

Brandon-Evansville had 331 yards of offense with 314 coming on the ground.  Yeats led the way with 138 yards on 15 carries.  Carlson added 56 yards on 3 touches and Roers had 41 yards on 9 attempts.  Roers had a team high 6.5 (2 solo, 9 assists) tackles and Yeats added 6 (4 solo, 4 assists).

Hillcrest was held to just 105 yards of total offense, 71 passing yards and 34 rushing yards.  Swenson completed 3-of-6 passes and Ihrke caught two balls for 43 yards.  Zayne Weinrich had the other reception, covering 28 yards.  Weinrich also led the team with 26 rushing yards on 4 carries.  Simon Strommen led the defense for the Comets with 9.5 (7 solo, 5 assists) tackles and Weinrich added 6.5 (5 solo, 3 assists).

“Kaleb Swenson filled in at quarterback for us as we were missing our top two QB’s due to injury this game,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Derrick Clark.  “I thought Kaleb did a great job running our offense for only having a few days to prepare.  Zeke made two nice catches for us including his touchdown.  We were able to get our junior varsity guys some playing time in the fourth quarter and I was very impressed with their effort.  B-E has a very good squad this year but I thought we gave a very good effort tonight.”

Hillcrest will host United North Central in their Homecoming game on Friday night.
