The Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Boys Soccer Team defeated the East Grand Forks Green Wave by the score of 7-6 in a wild back and forth contest in miserable wet and windy conditions.

The Comets had the wind in the first half and needed to take advantage of it.  That they did, scoring first at the 10 minute mark, when Senior, Jowell Seymour, brought down a long crossing pass from the left side of the field from Severin Breck.  Jowell buried it in the top right corner of the Green Wave net.  Five minutes later, the Green Wave tied the score on a drive up the middle catching the Comets back on their heels.  Severin Breck, put the Comets up one, at 20 minutes, with a nice left footer off a feed from Jowell Seymour attacking the right goal line.  Two minutes later, EGF again, tied the score on a drive up the right side of the field.  Senior Captain and keeper, Zajen McArton, made a nice save at the 23 minute mark and took a quick long punt with the wind.  Severin Breck collected the ball in the Green Wave box and scored for the Comets.  Breck then scored again at 28 minutes off an assist from Jowell Seymour.  Haken Hagerup scored at 32 minutes on a corner kick from the right side which he curled into the top left corner of the Green Wave net.  With two minutes left in the half, EGF scored ending the half with the Comets up 5-3.

At 64 minutes, Jowell Seymour attacked the right goal line and put a centering pass of a Green Wave defender.  Kristian Maestad gathered in the ball and scored on a blast from inside the box.  East Grand Forks then tied the game on three consecutive goals in three minutes, starting at 65 minutes.  Kristian Maestad put the Comets up for good at the 70 minute mark off an assist from Vetle Myntevik, ending all scoring with Comets up 7-6.

The Comets out shot their opponent by a margin of 16-14.  “The wet windy conditions made it a keeper’s nightmare with very difficult conditions to stop the ball,” said Head Coach Rod Jensen of Hillcrest.  “The Comets showed tremendous heart tonight, battling back continually from three tied scores during the contest.  Eighth Grader, Gabriel Swedenburg and ninth grader, Cole Peterson, both stepped up and played like a couple of veteran varsity players on defense for the Comets during the contest.”

The Comets now 2-2, travel to Pelican Rapids on Thursday for a varsity only match up with the Vikings (which will not be counted as a conference game) at 6:00pm.
