The Breckenridge-Wahpeton Cross Country teams took to the hills of Detroit Lakes on Thursday afternoon.  Both the boys’ and girls’ team placed 7th, respectively, as teams.

Aidan Ruddy continues to run well.  Aidan ran a very good 3rd mile, moving up from 27th to 19th place, 19:23, in the final stretches in the 82 runner field.  The rest of BW Harriers also ran very well on the challenging course.

“We ran in a nice pack, our 2 through 7 runners were closer to Aiden time wise, and none fell to the back of the pack,” said Head Coach Larry Lasch.

Corbin Cornelius, 40th, Junior Perez, 43rd, Gus Lasch, 45th, Isaac Getz, 47th, Jayden Wiertzema, 49th, and Jonathan Hill, 50th all finished between 20:33 and 22:10.

The girls’ team continues to shake up the lineup.  After three races, they’ve had three different number one runners.  This week it was Junior Em Lisby who placed 49th, 26:29, of 61 runners.  Tayor Bommersbach continues to run well placing right behind Em, 26:35.  Freshman Ali Hoerer had a break out race to be the 3rd runner for BW in 53rd and Grace Conzemius was next.  Freshmen Kinsey Pedersen, Mercedes Jirak, and Margo Mumm rounded out the varsity scoring placing 58th, 60th, and 61th, respectively.

“The Detroit Lakes course is very hilly and training in the Red River Valley kids don’t get to train on hills of that intensity,” noted Lasch.  “But they did a great job, their times exceeded expectations.  After three races the kids are getting more accustomed to the rigors of a 5k race.  The day was a good confidence booster for our team.”

The next meet is at Milbank, SD September 14.
