Fergus Falls Bowlers Open Season at Northern Aire Lanes

The 2019 Minnesota High School Bowling (MHSB) season got underway for the West Central (North) Conference on Sunday at Northern Aire Lanes, with the host teams getting off to a great start. The varsity squad and JV Gold teams swept all three matches, jumping out to an early conference lead.  The West Central (North) Conference is Fergus Falls, Detroit Lakes, Bemidji, New York Mills, Perham, and Wadena.

Varsity coach Dean Paulson, seniors Zach Kort. Atlanta Goulet, Jasmine Benjamin, Kaitlyn Krensing, along with sophomores Keisen Wick and Dylan Obowa.  The first match was a 4-1 win over Bemidji, with Wick (87%) and Krensing (77%) leading the team in fill percentage.  Match two was a 5-0 win over Perham.  Obowa filled the match at 100%, with Kort at 87%, and Krensing at 81%.  The Otters squeaked out a 3-2 win over New York Mills in the final match. Goulet filled at 100% to lead the team.

FF JV Black coaches Luke Loeffler and John Runningen, sophomores Morgan West and Kacey Fredrickson, freshmen Ryder Drayton, Mackinzie Brist, and Matthew Tungseth, and eighth-grader Alayna Price.  JV Black won their first match, 5-0, against Bemidji JV. Fredrickson led the team with 100% fills, with West at 87%, and Brist at 75%.  Price was team-high at 87% in a 5-0 win over New York Mills JV in the second match.  JV Black dropped the final match of the day, 2-3, against FF JV Silver.  Drayton led the way with 70% in the loss.

FF JV Maroon coach Morgan Christenson, freshmen Amelia Eide and Joe Rogal, and eighth-graders Sara Johnson, Kjerstin Erickson, Kaydence Knutson, and Owen Foreman.  Knutson led the team with 88% fills in a 5-0 win over Perham in match one.  Johnson (62%) and Eide (60%) were team-high in a 1-4 loss to JV Gold in the second match.  JV Maroon closed out the meet with a 3-2 win over Detroit Lakes JV, with Eide leading the way at 62% in the win.

FF JV Gold coach Jess Jennen, eighth-grader Nolan Korby, and seventh-graders Abby Tungseth, Kendra Koep, Kylie McNeill, Alex Benjamin, Andrew Muchow, and Myia Krensing.  JV Gold won match one against JV Silver, 4-1. Korby was team-high at 58% in the win.   Koep (75%) and Benjamin (66%) carried the team to a 4-1 win over JV Maroon in the second match.  JV Gold completed the sweep with a 5-0 win over New York Mills JV. Krensing (75%) and Korby (66%) led the way.

FF JV Silver coach Spencer Jennen, eighth-grader Brody Bray, and seventh-graders Byron Bray, Braden Albert, Micah Gaines, Grady Pelaccio, Wyatt Hegseth, and Taylen Arndt.  JV Silver dropped match one to JV Gold 1-4, with Albert team-high at 45%.  Match two was a 3-2 win over Perham JV, with Albert again leading the way at 50% in the win.  Albert filled match three at 77%, including finishing the final game five with three strikes to lock up a 3-2 win over JV Black.

The Otters will travel to Bemidji for the next meet on Sunday, September 15.
