The Barnesville Trojans held the Hawley Nuggets to seven points on Friday night, while scoring 45 points of their own to improve their season record to 2-0.

The Nuggets turned an early turnover into the first touchdown of the night when Matt Thompson snatched a ball out of the air and took it inside the ten yard line, setting up a Wyatt Dunham TD run and an extra point kick by Sam Burkel.  The Trojans took the ball down the field on the next possession and got a touchdown from Cam Heng and a two-point conversion run from Adam Tonsfeldt to give them an 8-7 lead.

In the second quarter Adam Tonsfeldt scored on a 44 yard run to make it a 14-7 lead.  On the Trojans last possession of the first half Hunter Anderson finished a six play drive that ended with him taking it in from 8 yards out, putting the halftime score at 20-7.

“At the half we discussed the way we played the first quarter and how unlike us that was as we had seven penalties ranging from false starts to blocks in the back,” said Coach Bryan Strand.  “We were playing timid and just not our way of playing, in my opinion, they needed to pick it up.”

Another Tonsfeldt TD, this one from 42 yards out on the first possession of the second half, gave the Trojans a 26-8 advantage.  Tonsfeldt then scored on a 66 yard punt return and Nolan Rick added the extra point kick.  Tonsfeldt scored the next TD on a 14 yard run and it was 39-8 as the third quarter ended.

“I was happy with how we came out, scoring three times and holding Hawley to 21 yards in the third quarter,” noted Strand.  “That is how I expected us to play from the beginning.”

Wyatt Roller scored his first varsity TD in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.

“Wyatt made a great run and the line gave him a great hole to run through,” commented Coach Strand.  “I felt we played a good second quarter and a great third quarter, but we have to be ready when the game starts.  We have a run here of four games that are all against good opponents.  We need to get better is some facets of the game.”

Tonsfeldt had a huge game for the Trojans, running for 217 yards on 11 carries.  Anderson added 86 yards on 8 attempts and Heng finished with 75 yards on 10 carries.  Barnesville had a total of 449 rushing yards and held Hawley to 191 total yards.  The Trojans did not attempt a pass.

Defensive leaders were Joey Mark (4 solo tackles, 7 assisted tackles), Hunter Zenzen (6 solo tackles, 2 assisted tackles), Hunter Anderson (2 solo tackles, 5 assisted tackles), Brady Kroll (3 solo tackles, 3 assisted tackles), Kaden Zenzen (2 solo tackles, 4 assisted tackles) and Cole Swenson (Fumble Recovery).
