Alexandria claimed first place at the Detroit Lakes Girls Cross Country Invitational, scoring 20 points.  Second place went to Shanley with 64 and Fergus Falls placed third with 101 points.  Kindred (101) was fourth, DL (128) was fifth, Lake Park-Audubon (138) sixth and Breckenridge/Wahpeton (201) seventh.

“The Otter Girls came together as a team tonight,” said Head Coach Niki Welde. “They earned their top 3 finish through hard work on a challenging course.  The team came to depend on our 6th runner, Ellia Soydara (25:25.6), for her tie breaking score with Kindred.”

Emily Nuss (21:33.7) led the Otters with a 12th place finish dropping 45 seconds off her time from last year.  Karolyn Papon (23:24.6) medaled in the top 20, finishing thirteenth.  Ainsley Hansen (23:37.9) dropped over a minute from last year coming in 3rd for the Otters and eighteenth overall. Sierra Hatlewick (24:50.9), Makenna Stenstrom (25:08.9), Ellia Soydara, and Becca Schindler (26:18.5) rounded out the Fergus Falls varsity team.

Miah Schmidt had an excellent 5K leading our JV team tonight,” reported Welde.  “Brooklyn Berge had a near 3 minute drop from her previous showing on this course.  Senior Emma Rund showed true sportsmanship by stopping her race to assist a distressed runner on the course. All these girls have been amazing to work with.  Naomi Dummer again led the Otters with a nice time drop from the previous season.”

Fargo Shanley runner Anna Bernhardt (20:07.6) was the individual champion.
