The M State volleyball team opened MCAC Southern Division play with a 3-1 (25-11, 25-12, 23-25, 25-14) victory over Ridgewater Community College of Willmar.

“We were looking forward to our match against Ridgewater because we were ready to open up conference play,” said head volleyball coach Abby Crowser. “After a strong first two sets, we struggled a bit in the third, but bounced back again in the fourth. It’s good to see that the team can regain their composure and finish solid after a lost set. The highlight of the night was definitely having Sydney Hovland get her 1,000th set assist. We were so excited for her and she’s worked very hard for that accomplishment.”

Hovland finished with 30 set assists, 8 digs and 5 kills.  Bailey Marty had 23 digs and 5 ace serves, Katherine Mastey led the team with 11 kills, Hannah Ekse contributed 9 kills and Alexa Mortenson had 8 kills and 9 digs.  Sierra Jenson and Taylor Berndt each had 2 ace serves.  Berndt also added 19 digs and 6 kills.

Serving leaders were Marty (28/29), Jenson (17/17), Mortenson (12/13), Berndt (16/20) and Hovland (7/8).
