The Barnesville volleyball team traveled to Breckenridge on Tuesday for their first away match of the 2019 season. The lady Trojans came through with a hard-fought 3-2 (13-25, 25-10, 20-25, 26-24, 15-7) victory over the Cowgirls.

“The girls came ready to play early in the match and took advantage of a couple errors by the Cowgirls to start, however, we made too many mistakes early on that cost us many points in set 1,” stated Barnesville Head Coach Megan Askegaard. “Our block was definitely off against their outside attackers and we were getting touches that were allowing us to score off the block or continue to play the ball. We were able to make some changes in our blocking and got more hitters into the offense in the next couple sets. Breck plays scrappy defense and picks up many balls that we thought were going to hit the floor. Our defense was able to pull us through along with making some changes up on the net. The girls battle the rollercoaster of momentum tonight and definitely played a marathon of a match on the first day of school. Emily Condon (39 digs, 14/15 serving, 1 ace) had a big game for us in the back row digging balls from all areas of the backcourt.”

Other leaders for the Trojans were Sam Passa (12 kills, 13/13 serving, 2 aces, 22 digs), Jordan Tschumperlin (10 kills, 17/19 serving, 1 ace, 8 digs, 3 solo blocks), Kim Maesse (18 set assists, 17/17 serving), Lexi Bolgrean (22 digs, 11/12 serving) and Katie Newell (19/20 serving, 1 ace, 11 set assists).

Leaders for the Cowgirls were Camryn Kaehler (16 kills, 16 digs, 2 ace serves), Abby Johnson (12 kills, 19 digs, 3 ace serves), Kaitlin Arnhalt (20 set assists, 17 digs), Carcie Materi (13 set assists, 1 ace serve), Riley Finkral (18 digs, 4 kills) and MadelynLarson (15 digs).
