With the first Little Eight Conference match of the season on Tuesday night, also being Parent’s Night, the Brandon-Evansville volleyball team welcomed Battle Lake to the gym. The Chargers recorded a win in a tight 5-set match, 25-27, 25-18, 16-25, 25-23, 15-2).

“We had a great crowd on both sides,” observed B-E Head Coach Kelly Olson. “The match wasn’t the cleanest of volleyball, but we played pretty well in the 5th set. However, the first four sets Battle Lake had control of the match for the most part. They served tough and their Libero really played well. We struggled to match their ball control, energy level, and serving consistency. We seemed to be a step slow, lack communication, and every time we would see a good play, we backed it up with a missed serve or unforced error. In the end we put a strong run together behind Brittany Korkowski’s serve and some nice transition points. It would have been nice to have that the whole match, but Battle Lake kept us out of rhythm all night. They played really well. We are happy to get the win and hopefully learn something tonight to build off of.”

Top performers for the Chargers were Bailey Schaefer (13 kills, 10 digs, 14/17 serving), Kailee Klimek (12 kills, 8 digs, 1 block, 22/24 serving, 3 ace serves), Mikenna Pattrin (10 kills, 16/18 serving, 3 ace serves), Korrie Randt (40 set assists, 8 digs, 10/11 serving) and Haddey Zastrow (6 kills).  Brittany Korkowski was 16-of-19 serving.

The Chargers are a strong offensive team and the Battlers knew that to keep it close they had to play very aggressive,” said Battle Lake Head Coach Jennifer Roisum.  “The Battlers scrambled the whole night and served very well taking the Chargers out of system.  The Battlers could not find their rhythm in set 5 and the Chargers were able to get a strong serving game going to take the match.  The Battlers continue to improve with each set played and they gained a lot of experience tonight.”

Halie Johnson had a solid night going 28/28 serving with 8 aces, 8 digs, and 5 kills.  Grace Van Erp had 12 digs, 13 assists, and 5 aces.  Kate Christensen led the Battlers with 9 kills and added 7 aces.  Makenna Tysdal controlled the back court for the Battlers with 12 digs and was 16/17 serving.  The Battlers are off until Saturday and the Pelican Rapids tournament.
