On Friday the Fergus Falls girls' tennis team hosted Little Falls and Detroit Lakes in a section 8AA triangular.  The Otters had a good showing and ended the day with a split.

Carlie Meis of the Otters.

First up for the Otters was Little Falls.  The Otters took this match 6-1.  Ellie Colbeck played a tight first set, winning 7-5 before rolling through her second set 6-0.  “Ellie has found a pretty consistent groove and is playing good tennis,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Jamie Lill

Leila Nasri played an aggressive opponent at second singles, dropping her match in straight 6-3 sets.  Amber Anderson took the court in the third singles spot today and delivered a very clean win, dropping only one game in her straight set victory.  Ava Weber also made quick work in her match, earning the 6-2, 6-1 win.

In doubles action, Carlie Meis and Olivia Kaliher rolled through their first doubles match 6-0, 6-1.  Elissa Lee and Mackenzie Krava had a very competitive match at second doubles winning a very tight first set 6-4 before taking control in the second set 6-2.  Elizabeth Houge and Mia Marsh also made quick work at third doubles, dropping only one game 6-0, 6-1.

Next up for the Otters was Detroit Lakes.  The Lakers took the match 5-2.  This match was highlighted by some great performances.  Amber Anderson was in the 4th singles slot for this one and lost a nail biter.  Amber earned the first set 6-4 before dropping the second set 6-1.  The third set was decided in a super tie-breaker, where Amber fell just short at 10-8.

“Amber has jumped into this varsity lineup and continues to demonstrate great consistency in her groundstrokes,” said Lill.  “This 8th grader is really making gains quickly this fall.  Another great match for the Otters was at second doubles with a new duo of Elizabeth Houge and Leila Nasri.  Elizabeth and Leila were most effective when Leila was back to stroke the groundies and Elizabeth was up at the net putting shots away.  Elizabeth really impressed with her ability to finish points.  This match was exciting to watch as the variety of shots and the energy on the court were awesome.  The girls took the match in straights 6-2, 6-4.  Ellie Colbeck also picked up a very nice win at first singles, winning 6-1, 6-0.  These wins are becoming seemingly routine for Colbeck, but it's very important to remember that there is nothing routine about first singles.  Ellie sees the very best opponent that each team has to offer.  She's just finding a way to win these matches very impressively.  The weather was amazing for tennis today and the Otters had a very good day overall.”

The team has the weekend off and will be back at it again next Thursday when the team heads to perennial powerhouse St. Cloud Tech for a 4:30pm dual.
