The Brandon-Evansville football team ran for 344 yards and compiles 400 total yards as they opened the 2019 season with a 55-6 win over Rothsay on Thursday night.  Cade Carlson carried the ball only 7 times, but ran for 200 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Tanner Bitzan added 86 yards on 5 carries, finding the end zone twice.

“It is good to be back and under the lights.  Lots of our players saw the field tonight and got those first game jitters out of the way,” said B-E Head Coach Tim Pattrin.  “The line blocked well and our backs ran hard on offense.  Defensively we played as a unit and rallied to the football well.”

The Chargers got off to a fast start, scoring 25 first quarter points.  Their first touchdown came just 1:30 into the game when Carlson ran one in from 27 yards out and Bitzan added the extra point kick.  At the eight minute mark, quarterback Keagan Schiele carried the ball over the goal line from the one yard line to give B-E a 13-0 advantage.  With 6:15 left in the opening quarter Bitzan punched the ball in from the one and it was 19-0.  Carlson broke loose for a 40 yard TD run with 3:30 remaining in the quarter and the Chargers had a 25-0 lead as the first quarter came to an end.

One minute into the second quarter B-E expanded their lead to 31-0 on a six yard run by Bitzan.  With three minutes to go in the half Rothsay got on the board when Colby Larson ran 63 yards for their first touchdown of the season.

The third quarter featured a one yard TD run by Bitzan, followed by a two-point conversion run by Carlson, and a one yard run for another score by Carlson, followed by a Schiele to Bitzan pass for the two-point conversion.  That made the score 47-6 after three quarters of play.

Carlson finished the scoring when he escaped for a 90 yard touchdown run fifteen seconds into the final quarter.  John Roers scored the two-point conversion and the Chargers picked up a 55-6 win in the season opener.

“We lost many seniors to graduation and have only a few upper classmen on the team, whileup while the Chargers brought many seniors and size to the field,” noted Rothsay Head Coach Josh Nordick.  “We did some things well tonight, I saw some things that we can build on. “We need to play with a purpose and play with some fire. I did not see that from all of my athletes tonight and it showed up on the score.  Brandon-Evansville is a good team and if they can stay healthy they could go far this year, but we need to focus on ourselves and playing the game the right way.”

The Tigers were led by Colby Larson with 118 yards on the ground and 19 yards receiving and Tanner Heier with 109 yards in the air.  Ethan Curtis had seven receptions for 81 yards.
