The Barnesville Trojans started out their second home volleyball match with some tough serving against the East Grand Forks Green Wave. The early momentum carried them to a 3-0 (25-8, 25-18, 25-23) victory over the visitors.

Kim Maesse (15 set assists, 23/23 serving, 3 aces) did a tremendous job making their passers work to get a good pass to their setter,” said Head Coach Megan Askegaard. “Our intensity in the first set was incredible. We made some great scoring runs and used all of our attackers up on the net. Our blockers did an outstanding job putting up a big block against their attack. We took that momentum from the first set into set two. We once again jumped out to an early lead before we started making some attacking errors and serving errors that caused the scores to tighten. We were able to pull through with our defense leading the way for us again tonight. Emily Condon (14 digs, 6/7 serving) and our left side defense was unstoppable tonight. We passed many balls up to our setter tonight that allowed us to run our offense how we wanted to. After taking the first two sets, we had a tough time getting things going in set 3 and found ourselves in a hole trying to play catch up. We were able to use a couple of their mistakes as scoring opportunities and find a way to pull ahead. We played smart and scored points when we needed to. Great early season win tonight.”

Other statistical leaders for the Trojans were Sam Passa (13 kills, 8 digs, 2 block assists), Emily Brenden (5 kills, 6 block assists), Lexi Bolgrean (8 kills, 11/12 serving, 10 digs), Jordan Tschumperlin (7 kills, 12/14 serving, 3 aces, 6 solo blocks, 2 block assists) and Katie Newell (19 set assists, 8/9 serving, 1 ace).
