The Breckenridge-Wahpeton Cross Country team has 45 kids (20 boys, 25 girls) participating in grades 7 through 12.  That's the largest group of runners the team has had since the two school formed a co-op for the program five years ago.

The boys' team needs to replace a pair of All-State runners as Zach Haire (12th at State in 2018) and Hunter Gowin (25th at State in 2018) have graduated and moved on to collegiate competition with Haire running at St. Thomas University and Gowin at NDSU.

The boys' return seniors Corbin Cornelius and Isaac Getz, along with junior Gus Lasch.  They will be looking for sophomore Aidan Ruddy and junior Francisco Perez to make a varsity impact right away.

The girls' return junior Grace Conzemius and sophomore Rachel Gowin.  Sophomore Taylor Bommersbach and junior Emily Lisby will also be stepping into the varsity lineup.

"We have lots of holes to fill from last year, but we have our core runners and some fresh new faces that will work out nicely," commented Coach Larry Lasch, now in his eleventh year.  "Many kids are new to the sport, so this season will be a rebuilding year that will gel in early October.  Every meet will be a learning experience."

Lasch will be assisted by fifth-year coach Christy Haire.

According to Coach Lasch, Perham is the definite number one team in the Heart O' Lakes Conference, while West Central Area and Staples-Motley are at the top of Section 6A.
