The West Central Area volleyball team opened the season on Tuesday night with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-13) victory over the Ashby Arrows.

“The girls came out strong with a serving run right out of the game by Kaleigh Anderson in game one with six serves in a row,” reported WCA Head Coach Missy Foslien.  “Emma Swenson had a nice game in her debut as Libero, playing very scrappy.”

Anderson (19/20 serving, 4 aces, 4 set assists, 18 digs), Kaylyn Ulrich (10/10 serving, 2 aces), Emma Swenson (23 digs), Savannah Swenson (5 set assists), Holly Gilsdorf (4 set assists), Hailey Bennett (8 kills) and Liz Rustan (4 kills, 2 blocks) were the leaders for the lady Knights.

Leaders for Ashby were Amelia Barry (2 kills, 7 assists, 13 digs), Anissa Heinrich (2 kills, 6 digs), Courtney Koefod (7 kills, 12 digs, 4 aces), Halle Dahlen (3 kills, 2 blocks) and Kalista Aamot (2 kills, 8 digs).

“First game jitters got us on the serving line and we took ourselves out of each with 6 or 7 missed serves,” said Ashby Head Coach Hayley Stevens. “Hard to dig out of that hole and WCA was scrappy. Nice to have a game under our belt whether a win or loss to iron out some game time mistakes and to really get a feel for what flows on the court. When we were able to get the pass up to our setter we finished with some great hits from Koefod on the outside. I was happy with so many things and see what changes and areas we need to work on before Thursday when we host Henning.”

West Central Area will face Frazee on Thursday evening in Barrett.
