The Otter girls’ tennis team played host to the Moorhead Spuds in a dual on Monday.  The Spuds brought their very veteran squad to town ready to play and defeated the Otters 6-1.

“The Spuds demonstrated a greater consistency overall than our girls and a willingness to play offensive tennis,” commented Head Coach Jamie Lill of the Otters.  “They were going for shots and consistently hitting winners.  Their ability to simply get more balls back definitely made the difference today.”

The lone win for the Otters came in the number one singles match with Ellie Colbeck defeating Katrina Hansen in a three-set match-up.  “Ellie was really serving well today,” reported Lill.  “Each year her serve becomes more of a weapon for her and she was able to win some easy points on the effectiveness of her serve tonight.  Her backhand was also a highlight on the court in this match.  Ellie just did a nice job of moving her opponent around and tiring her out. Moorhead was tough top to bottom, but we'll definitely look forward to seeing them again in the end of September for another shot at them.”

The Otters travel to Willmar on Tuesday for a 4:30 dual with the Cardinals.
