Fergus Falls American Legion Post 30 finished a busy week by playing 8 games in 6 days. They took third in the Alexandria Legion Tournament, losing to the eventual champion Champlin, for their only two losses of the tournament.

Post 30 dropped a very well played game 5-3 in the semifinals.

Post 30 played one of their better games of the year, pounding out 13 hits and only committing 1 error. Champlin was able to manage only 5 hits, but they bunched them up and took advantage of an extra out and a free walk.

Cole Fronning started on the mound and pitched very well, 5IP, 4H, 5R, 3ER, 3BB, 1K. Mike Maanum went an inning, allowing a hit and a strikeout.

Austin Stanislawski (3-4, 3B, RBI) and Brock Kotschevar (2-4) led Post 30 offensively. “Post 30 put together great at bats throughout the game,” said Head Coach Trevor Larson. “Several hard hit balls went for outs today.”

Post 30 jumped ahead with a run in the top of the 2nd inning and put up 2 in the top of the 3rd inning. Champlin scored 2 in the bottom of the 4th and 3 in the top of the 5th to take a 5-3 lead. Post 30 threatened in the top of the 7th with two runners on, but couldn’t get the clutch hit they needed.

“Overall it was a good week of baseball and this weekend just capped it,” said Coach Larson. “We definitely deserved a better fate this last game, out hitting them 13-5.”

Post 30 returns to action this week with two very important double headers on the road, Tuesday in Bemidji and Thursday in Moorhead.
