Second-seeded New York Mills used an eight-run sixth inning to turn a tight, one-run advantage into a 10-1 victory over South Ridge in the Class A quarterfinals on Thursday, June 13 at the Mini Met in Jordan.

Senior catcher Dylan Fischer was 3 for 4 with two runs batted in during the decisive sixth inning. Sophomore designated hitter Abe Carlson later followed with a two-run double for the Eagles (20-4). Junior pitcher Caden Roberts scattered six hits and struck out seven in earning the victory.

South Ridge (20-7) struck first with a run in the top of the second inning with an infield RBI single from senior third baseman Elias Tuominen. South Ridge was attempting to advance to the Class A semifinals for the second consecutive season. During the 2018 tournament, the Panthers finished fourth in the eight-team field.

New York Mills will play Sacred Heart in a championship semifinal contest at 2:30pm Friday at the Mini Met in Jordan.
