The Fergus Falls 12U Maroon team started a busy week with a doubleheader sweep over Wahpeton on Monday night.

In game one, the Otters scored 11 runs on 12 hits, and got great pitching performances to win the contest 11-0.  They put up crooked numbers in each of the first three innings to take control of the game.

The Otters knocked out four hits, took advantage of a walk and three passed balls to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Jacob Fronning and Carston Fronning both had doubles, Brock Scheuerman added a single, Jack Ratz drew the walk, and Sean Berge hit a triple. He was thrown out on a close play at the plate trying to stretch it into an inside the park home run.

The Otters added to their lead in the second when Luke Pearson singled up the middle, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on Carson Grenier’s groundout to first. Jaden Miller singled, advanced to second on an error, and scored on Cam Wiederich’s single.

The Otters finished out their scoring in the third when five runs crossed the plate on four hits, and two walks. Aikhem Bethel walked, and Jacob Fronning singled to start the inning. They both advanced on a wild pitch, and scored when Carston Fronning singled to left. After Preston Berge walked, Ratz doubled to score Carston Fronning. With Berge and Ratz on second and third, Parker Thielke singled to score them both to give the home team an 11-0 lead.  The Otters were led at the plate by Jacob Fronning, Carston Fronning, and Jaden Miller who each collected two hits.

Jacob Fronning pitched two scoreless innings. He only gave up one hit and struck out 4 batters. Scheuerman pitched three innings. He gave up two hits, walked two, and struck out five batters.

Game two saw the Otters in a close battle until a six run explosion in the third separated the two teams.  Hits by Miller, Bethel and C. Fronning, walks by Wiederich, Aiden Schake, J. Fronning, and Scheuerman and numerous passed balls led to the six runs.

A seven run fourth inning for the Otters enabled them to close out the game early because of the ten run rule. The Otters had hits from Grenier, J. Fronning, C. Fronning, and Preston Berge along with walks by Pearson, Wiederich, Schake, Bethel, Ratz, Sean Berge, and numerous passed balls led to the seven run onslaught.

The Berge brothers once again combined to win a game. Preston pitched two scoreless innings while his brother Sean pitched the last three innings allowing three runs. Preston didn’t allow a hit while Sean only gave up one.

The Maroon team will host Alexandria on Wednesday. The doubleheader will start at 5:30pm on Field 5 at DeLagoon park.
