Perham won both the boys and girls team titles at the Section 6A Track and Field Meet on Thursday in Fergus Falls and will be well represented at the Class A State Meet on Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8 at Hamline University in St. Paul.
Senior Ashley Hokanson established a new Section 6A record of 12-feet in winning the pole vault and her teammate, Shalie Lipp qualified second in the event with a height of 10-feet-6-inches. Caitlin Covington was runner-up in the 1600 (5:24.07), Liz Birkeland was second in the 3200 (12:27.85) and Mesa Schultz qualified second in the long jump (17-03.00).
The Perham girls also qualified three relays for the state meet as the 4 x 100 (Shalie Lipp, Willow Thiel, Lizzy LaFond, Mesa Schultz) was second (51.29), the 4 x 200 (Thiel, Hokanson, LaFond, Schultz) was second (1:48.53) and the 4 x 800 (Lacy Richter, Liz Birkeland, Caitlin Covington, Hailey Wegscheid) finished third but qualified by meet the state time standard (9:42.73).
The boys qualified the 4 x 800 relay team of Chase Belka, Bailey Evenson, Jacob McCleary and Clayton Anderson with a first place time of 8:13.49. McCleary also qualified as runner-up in the 800 (2:03.44). Brandon O’Hara was first in the 3200 (9:45.05) and second in the 1600 (4:30.47), Isaac Scheidecker finished second in the 110 hurdles (15.56) and Colton Kostynick placed second in both the shot put (46-09.00) and the discus (150-10).
