Brandon-Evansville fell behind 6-0 after two innings in their Section 6A baseball playoff game against Pelican Rapids on Tuesday, however, the Chargers rallied to tie the game with six runs in the third and pushed across two more runs in the fifth to post an 8-6 win over the Vikings.

“We got off to a rough start and played sloppy for the first couple innings, but were able to settle in and play better as the game progressed,” commented B-E Head Coach Brian Perleberg.  “Marshall Riedel came into the game in relief and pitched 5 1/3 innings of no hit ball.  He got into a groove and got better as the game went along, striking out eight of the last nine batters to end the game. He really stepped up and gave us the pitching performance we needed.”

Riedel (2-4, 2B, SB, R), Tanner Bitzan (1-3, 2R), Gaven Jacobson (1-1, R) and Tony Schaffran (1-3, 2B, R) led the Chargers offensive attack.

“I’m proud of how the guys battled back when faced with an early game deficit,” said Coach Perleberg.  “It’s never easy to fall behind early, especially in a post-season elimination game, but now it’s time to get back to work and prepare for Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale.”
