Breckenridge opened up Section 6A play with a 5-0 win over Staples-Motley Tuesday at Cowboy field.

“No question about it, this was by far the best game that we’ve played all year,” said Breckenridge Head Coach Kevin Hiedeman. “Our defense did not make an error tonight and turned two big double plays. Our pitchers (Connor Twidwell and Carter Haugen) only gave up 4 hits and only walked 2 batters.”

Connor Twidwell started pitching 4 1/3 innings, striking out 1, walking one and giving up 4 hits. Carter Haugen pitched 2 2/3 innings, striking out three and walking one batter.

The Cowboys had 13 hits on the evening. Hunter Feigum led going 4-4, Jeremy Stack had 3 hits and an RBI. Brayden Wahl had 2 hits and 2 RBI. Max Johnson had a great day at the plate picking up two hits and an RBI. Cooper Yaggie had a double and an RBI and Jack Aigner had a hit.

“When we started the year we were not very good defensively and we’ve come a long way,” added Hiedeman. “We are a pretty good defensive team right now and these guys are a lot of fun to watch.  We got off to a great start with Feigum and Stack both picking up singles and scoring in the first inning. When those two guys get on base, we score runs. In the third inning we did the same thing with them both Feigum and Stack singling and scoring. The duo had 4 of our 5 runs tonight.”

This section win improves the Cowboy’s record to 16-5 and advances them to the double elimination round of the Section 8AA Tournament in Perham. The Cowboys are slated to play Wadena at 3:00pm on Thursday.
