10U Otters Win Twice Against Morris

The 10u Otters hosted the Morris Tigers on Thursday, May 23 and caged the Tigers by sweeping them in a doubleheader 6-1 and 3-2.

The Otters received strong pitching performances from Brody Krein and Caleb Fronning in game 1 to hold the Tigers in check. Krein threw 3 innings and struck out 9 while Fronning slammed the door in the last two innings by striking out 5. The Otters took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd with Benett Thielke walking and scoring on a ground out by Josh Horgen. The Otters took control of the game in the bottom of the 4th by scoring 5 runs with Krein, Luke Johnson, Jacob Jenc, Tanner Donaghue, and John Abrahams scoring. Leading hitters for the Otters in game 1 were Johnson, Abrahams, Donaghue, and Easton Hanson.

In the second game, the Otters found themselves in a 1-0 hole after the second inning. The Otters tied the game in the bottom of the third after Kadyn Zender walked and came around to score after some heady base running. The Otters clawed two runs across in the bottom of the 4th to put the game away. In the 4th, Nolan Felstul doubled and scored and Krein singled and scored. Horgen toed the rubber to start the game and pitched two solid innings (3 Ks) for the Otters. Felstul closed out the Tigers by pitching the final 3 innings, striking out 4. The Tigers had a threat in the top of the fifth with a runner on third and two outs but Felstul struck out the last batter to end the game. Leading hitters in game 2 were Felstul, Krein, Jenc, and Donaghue.

“I am so proud of how our team competed today. We found ourselves behind in the second game but responded by coming back to win to earn the sweep,” said Coach Chad Felstul. “These two wins were a true team effort,” commented Felstul.  

The young Otters improved to 7-1 on the season with the two wins. The 10u Otters look to continue their winning ways with a doubleheader in Underwood against the Ottertail Central Bulldogs on May 30 at 5:30pm.

The Otters are coached by Chad Felstul and Darren Krein with special help at practice from Dick Felstul, Robbie Olson, and Mike Donaghue.
