OTC Men Win Six Events at Park Region to take Second Overall

The Ottertail Central men battled their way to a second place finish at the Park Region Conference meet on Tuesday with a team score of 136 while Wadena-Deer Creek took home the hardware with a score of 171.5. Pillager finished in third with 103.5.

 

The Bulldog men started out fast winning the first two events to take an early lead in the team standings. Luke Bjorklund won the high jump with a leap of 5’8 and the 4x800 consisting of Brady Scholten, Thomas Himmelspach, Blake Alonzo and Brennan Amundson won with a 9:00.19. Bjorklund also placed second in the triple jump with a 40-09 and finished sixth in the long jump.

 

Eli Carlson was a double event winner bringing home titles with strategic racing styles in the 800, 2:10.88, and the 1600, 4:51.55. Brady Scholten earned all-conference honors in the 800 taking third while Drew Durbin finished sixth. Isaac Scherfenberg and Thomas Himmelspach picked up fifth and sixth in the 1600.

 

Nick VanErp also captured two titles. VanErp won the 100 in 11.60 and long jump with a jump of 20-07. VanErp also earned all-conference honors with a second place finish in the 200 and third place finish in the triple jump.

 

Hunter Doll picked up team points by placing third in the discus with a throw of 110-05, and taking fifth in the pole vault clearing 8-10.

 

In the hurdle events, Connor Drake and Brady VanErp took fourth and sixth in the 110’s running 17.86 and 18.38. Then they switched places in the 300’s with VanErp taking fourth with a 45.69 and Drake taking sixth with 48.19.

 

The 4x100 relay of Brady VanErp, Crosby Aasnes, Jason Rich, and Luke Bjorklund took fourth with a 49.69. And to finish the meet the 4x400 relay of James Thompson, Eli Carlson, Nick Carter, and Brennan Amundson took second with a time of 3:43.1.

 

“It was a fun day to watch multiple of our athletes become conference champions.” Head coach Brady Speicher said. “We are now all focused on sub-sections and working our way to the state meet.”
