The Breckenridge Cowboys let one slip away to the 10th ranked team in the state, Border West on Friday as the Buccaneers posted a 6-2 win..

Breckenridge jumped out to an early lead when Hunter Feigum walked, stole second and was bunted to 3rd by Carter Haugen. Feigum scored on a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead.

The Cowboys added to that in the 4th when Cooper Yaggie reached on a dropped third strike and Max Johnson pinch ran and stole second and scored on an infield error. The Cowboys were cruising also with Carter Haugen on the mound until the bottom of the 5th when Border West scored a run on a couple hits. The Cowboys were out of the inning with two outs but made an error allowing 2 runs to score.

“In the 6th inning we dropped a fly ball in the outfield for the third out that allowed three more runs to score,” reported Head Coach Kevin Hiedeman. “Haugen pitched a great game today, striking out 3, walking two and only giving up one earned run. He pitched well enough to win. Offensively, the Cowboys faced two of the best pitchers we’ve seen all year. Connor Twidwell had a hit and Hayden Schuler picked up a hit and made a great catch in the outfield. This was our 5th game of the week. We had three starters not in the lineup today due to sore arms and illness. We had kids playing out of their normal positions and against a great team we still put ourselves in position to win. We will get some much needed rest this weekend before playing Wahpeton on Tuesday.”
