The M State baseball team split a pair of games with Central Lakes on Saturday, May 4 in Brainerd and then swept the Raiders in a Sunday double header in Fergus Falls. Winning three of four over the weekend puts M State at 26-17 overall and 7-5 in Divisional play.
The Spartans lost the first game on Saturday, 8-7. Central Lakes led 6-2 after three innings, but M State rallied to tie the game with four runs in the fourth. Each time scored a run in the fifth, making it a 7-7 tie. The Raiders pushed across the go ahead run in the bottom of the sixth and held the Spartans scoreless in the seventh to secure the win. Devin Bush had a double and a homer in three at bats to lead M State. He scored three times in the game. Cody Arlt was 1-for-3 with one RBI and 2 runs scored. Rory Drewes, Matt Pietsch, Ryan Schmitz and Will Magnusson also drove in runs.
In their 6-2 game two victory, Matt Hagen (6IP, 10H, 2ER, 3BB, 3K) was the winning pitcher. Skylar Mursu threw a hitless seventh inning. Hitting leaders for the Spartans were Tom Magnusson (2-4, R), Matt Pietsch (1-4, 2RBI) and Devin Bush (1-4, 2R).
