The Staples-Motley Cardinals topped the Pelican Rapids Vikings in baseball 8-2 on Friday, coming back from an early deficit and capitalizing on ten Pelican Rapids errors, while collecting nine hits in the game.

After giving up a run in the top of the 1st, Pelican came back with 2 in the bottom of the inning. Hayden Christenson singled and stole 2nd.  Reggie Funk walked and both runners moved up on a passed ball.  Christenson scored on another passed ball and Funk scored on Weston Funk’s single.  The Pelican bats went silent after that and the defense struggled throughout the game.  Christenson started the game on the mound for the Vikings, giving up 7 hits, 8 runs, of which only one was earned, struck out 3 and didn’t walk anybody.  Reggie Funk pitched scoreless 6th and 7th innings, giving up 2 hits, striking out 2 and walking one.  Funk and Tim Guler did the catching.  Christenson had 2 hits on the day.  Other Vikings with base hits came from Alex Lynnes, Carson McNeill, and Ishmael Mejia

“The pitching was actually pretty good on the day but with 10 errors you are giving the other team 3 more innings to hit,” commented Pelican Rapids Assistant Coach Steve Babb

The Vikings have 2 double headers this week, Monday at home against Hawley and at Breckenridge on Thursday.
