The Ottertail Central baseball team grabbed an early lead on their way to a 7-4 victory over Pillager on Friday.

The Bulldogs scored on a single by Kayne Cameron and a double by Daxton Olson in the second inning.  They pulled away for good with four runs in the inning, all with two outs.

“We have a tough, resilient team that takes pride in scoring with two outs,” commented OTC Head Coach Ryan Hendrickson.  “We scored six of our seven runs tonight with two-out hitting.  That’s huge and deflating to the opposing pitcher.”

Cole Brandner (3.2IP, 6K, 2H, 4R) was the winning pitcher.  Drake Larsen threw three-and-a-third innings of relief for the Bulldogs.

“This is a really good set of pitchers we were able to throw tonight, they complement each other really well,” said Coach Hendrickson.  “I also have to give a lot of credit to Cameron behind the plate.  He’s a sophomore working into the catcher role into the future behind 3-year starter Brandner.  Kayne did an outstanding job calling the game and sticking and blocking tonight.”

Sam Jensen (5.1IP, 10K, 6H, 5R) took the loss for the Huskies.

Andrew Weniger led the Bulldogs with three hits in four at bats.

“Weniger has been on a role,” said Hendrickson.  “Olson and Dylan Trana both had big nights for us, too.”
